Remember: Your Tattoo is not finished until it is totally healed
When your tattoo is completed and / or with work in progress after each session it will be cleaned and covered as necessary at the studio. From that moment on it is your responsibility to hygienically take care of your tattoo/s. Good hygiene and care will reduce the risk of infection, aid healing and help maintain the colour/s.
• Before touching your tattoo at any time, make sure you ‘Wash Your Hands’ thoroughly with antibacterial soap.
• Leave the cover on for approximately one hour or as advised by your tattooist.
• Use only your clean hands or fingertips to wash your tattoo using cold water after the bandage is removed. Never use soap.Gently remove all traces of blood from the tattoo .
• Pat it dry with a soft cotton cloth or Tissues. Don’t not rub the tattoo harshly.
• Apply a thin coating (too much will suffocate your tattoo and delay healing) of recommended aftercare antibiotic ointment or there is a range of specially formulated tattoo aftercare products that you can purchase that will work.
• If you have any reaction to any of the products then stop use immediately then follow the product directions and/or consult a doctor.
• Do not cover the tattoo. Apply the antibiotic ointment 4 times a day just to help keep the tattoo moist all the time. Do not let the tattoo dry. Following these procedures will reduce scabbing. Most people will only develop a thin film over the tattoo that will flake off for in around a week.
• Keeping your tattoo clean will reduce the risk of infection.
• Please apply a thick layer of Petroleum jelly (Vaseline or Bio-line) before bath to protect the tattoo from direct water exposure for 1 week before bath. Try to avoid long soaks in the bath. Hot water in contact with your skin will detach scabs or soak into the skin and loosen the ink. This could lead to your tattoo looking patchy when healed. A short shower is preferable for the first 2 weeks.
• Avoid swimming, sauna, beach water and hot tubs etc during healing for 1 month.
• Avoid vigorous exercise, sports and going to the gym during the healing process( for 10 days). Sweat will irritate the tattoo and it increases the risk of infection.
• DO NOT pick or scratch at the healing tattoo as this will remove the ink. You will then have to have the tattoo recolored.
• After the tattoo starts scabbing (after 5 to 6 days of get the tattoo) apply olive oil for a month 3 times a day which will help the Ink pigments to get integrated to the skin.
Tattoo is like a baby. U will have to take care of it for better longevity and good results.
